Already Read It! : A "Novel" Game 22

Can you guess the title and author of the novel depicted in the picture?

DIFFICULTY : Hard

CLUE : The two really took their forbidden love to the "heights", but they just couldn't get it over the "cliff".

It was a long time ago when I first read this novel. I chose to read it because we read a short sample of it at school in one of those literature text books we all remember well. I found the character of the sample very sad, and the passion exhibited in just those few paragraphs was very powerful. I have numerous copies of this novel, like I do for most of the novels I have in my library (because I always hope people will ask to borrow books from me one day), and I read the novel a few times in my younger days, and I can recite the basic plot of the story and it's characters, but what I remember most about this novel is the feelings it gave me while reading it. I remember feeling a heavy darkness about the catalytic events, a deep sadness and longing for the main characters and their plights, and frustration for how rules, traditions, and reputations dictated everyone's life in the time period the novel was set. I strongly recommend this novel, but heed my warning, reading it presents a strong possibilty of changing you forever.
