Already Read It! : A "Novel" Game 18

Can you guess the title and author of the novel depicted in the picture?

DIFFICULTY : Medium

CLUE : The "picture" featured in this novel did not "change" the community's views on certain controversial topics, which to this day and age are still ridiculously debated.

This novel entertains and disturbs me, but not for the controversial nature of its characters and relationships. My disturbance is simpler in literary terms because it deals with only my dislike for the main character. I don't remember a story I've liked where I've actually not really cared for the main character or any outcome concerning this main character. Even when the main character is the antagonist (which is a real popular trend these days and I'm glad because I love well-written “bad guys”) and you ultimately want them not to succeed, I usually enjoy the journey they take me on, their wit, their intelligence, something, but with this main character, I didn't really care about any of his qualities or what would happen to him. I've often thought about why I feel this way, which is why I consider this novel a must read for everyone because it makes one uncomfortably think, but I just can't put my analytical pinky on it. Maybe this was the author's intention; and if it was, it is a crowning achievement.
