Already Read It! : A "Novel" Game 24

Can you guess the title and author of the novel depicted in the picture?

DIFFICULTY : Medium

CLUE : These two opposite-side-of-the-tracks youths share a uniquely similar experience.

Even though this novel's story is marketed mainly to young adults, adapted and slightly rewritten numerous times over the years, the original text is much darker and carries many mature themes. I am not at all against anyone of any age reading this novel, because once again, I do not believe in any form of censorship; I'm just simply stating the narrative holds some themes others in today's society would deem inappropriate for the youth of our world, no matter which world from which you hail.
