Already Read It! : A "Novel" Game 26

Can you guess the title and author of the novel depicted in the picture?

DIFFICULTY : Medium

CLUE : Taking a daughter's love for granted is truly a "leery" choice.

When I first read this play in high school, our teacher kept telling us about the eye-gouging scenes, maybe to motivate us to read the play or because he loved Gloucester's character the most, but I didn't need any manipulation to read this playwright at this point. After reading about star-crossed lovers, a son attempting to prove his defamed father true, and a bloodthirsty wife and husband, I was already hooked on the words and the beauty of this genius' works. And this story did not disappoint. Even after you hear the daughters professing their false love and the one true daughter refusing to flatter her father and you immediately get a sense of where the plot is going and how it will turn out, you still are provided with very interesting side characters handling similar dilemmas of their own. Performed and adapted to different mediums for centuries, this play will definitely continue to live on long after its characters finish grappling, suffering, and learning from their mistakes, ultimately causing their demise with each reading or viewing.
