Already Read It! : A "Novel" Game 29

Can you guess the title and author of the novel depicted in the picture?

DIFFICULTY : Hard

CLUE : Your memory might need a little "bump" to remember the "last" time you heard this novel mentioned.

After I read this novel, I was disappointed to find out it was part of a series; not because I didn't like the novel and didn't want to have to read the other novels in the series, but because I read it out of order. It's the second novel in a series called The Leatherstocking Tales, and even as disciplined a reader as I am, reading a series out of order makes my skin crawl. It must just be my need for order and structure (the personality trait is not debilitating, so I do not think I need a diagnosis). One day, if I ever stumble upon a copy of the first book, I'll probably read it, and then re-read the above novel and go on from there, but I don't find myself searching out a copy without the intervention of happenstance.
